What is it?
Semen donation is a voluntary, altruistic act of solidarity through which a healthy male with an extraordinary quality of semen cedes his gametes for them to be used by an authorised Reproduction centre for the purpose of achieving pregnancies in women that may need this. Such women may belong to a couple with infertility problems or else be women with no male partner.
The donor is economically compensated for this activity due to the trouble taken, as stipulated by the Spanish Law on Assisted Reproduction and the Spanish Fertility Society.
Management, control and supervision of this activity is carried out in the reproduction clinics that provide semen Banks among their services.
In what cases is it necessary to use Semen form a Donor?
- Heterosexual couples with abnormal, few, or a lack of spermatozoa.
- When the father may transmit genetic disorders or contagious diseases.
- Repeated failure in assisted reproduction treatment on using semen from the couple themselves.
- Homosexual women or women with no male partner.
